Hi, I'm Chelby,
Being unable to effectively communicate until age 7, I endured an avalanche of uncertainty. Against all odds, I went from completing grammar school to making it all the way to college and receiving an Associates Degree achieving notable milestones . One Saturday morning, I decided to share my journey in this memoir, written from the perspective of a person living with a disability. In spite of seemingly endless challenges, I was determined and remained vigilant as I strive to do better each day. With the assistance of my family, friends, and Mentors, I have been enabled to elevate myself and live a successful happy life. Today, I still reside in Northern California with my beautiful family. I’m gainfully employed and now confirm that failure will always be defeated the moment a person makes an effort to achieve the goals they set for themselves. I say, “Do It Noww!”
My goal is to bring awareness to people with disabilities and the way I want to do this is to speak to all influential or famous people each month in order for the world to “ See Me.” Most people will speak to people with disabilities because it’s kind to do so, but they don’t “ see “ them. My thought is that if a famous person speaks back to me, the world will “ see” me through them. When Ms. Winfrey speaks, the world listens, when Mrs. Obama speaks, people applaud, when Beyoncé speaks, the world moves with her. I know I can’t be those people but I can be seen through them. If I stand next to them the world focuses on them but they see me and I feel good. I want this page to be about being in the present. I only want to say hello and how are you doing today, to the "world."
MY BOOK
There is so much to be said about being autistic. Initially, the person with autism has no idea that they have it. This book helps parents, family, employers, and others understand what it is like to live with this disability. It gives a glimpse of what it's like but does not mean that you cannot function on your own based on the degree of the disability and timelines of initial treatments In short, it takes a lot of work and prayer on everyone’s part. The main ingredient is “love.” But it takes work. Read this book and your eyes will be opened to the wonderful world of an autistic mind.
